Travelling - or not

As I write this, I am taking on board the details of the new “traffic light” system for overseas travel. It is quite complex and I think a lot of people will have nasty surprises.
I support the idea of opening up international travel very cautiously. Viruses do not move by themselves - they need us to move them around. So, less human travel means less propagation of the pandemic. If our government simply said that there could be no international travel, I would be sanguine; disappointed that out summer holiday in Kefalonia would be postponed/cancelled, but I would understand. Instead, we have this ridiculous system, which is intended to let Johnson say that we can travel and that they are supporting the travel industry, when none of this is true.
Start with “green” countries. There is a list of places, but there is really only one that is a holiday destination and most of the places would not let us travel there anyway. Our government can only control entry to this country. If you did manage to go to and return from a green country, you would still need an expensive PVR test.
The “amber” countries require 2 such expensive tests and 10 days self-isolation at home. Who can afford the time to do that? And who wants to be cooped up during what might be the nicest  weather here?
The “red” countries are just impossible, with a very expensive isolation hotel to pay for.
An additional factor is that you could travel out to a green country and it could change to amber or red while you are away.
All in all, I think the only option is to stay in this country. We are in the process of postponing our holiday until next year … 😕
